International (Climate Change) Law in the Post-Advisory Era: Taking Stock and Moving Ahead
27-28 November 2026, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece
Climate change is a ‘wicked problem’ with which international law has been trying (and failing) to catch up for the past decades. Within the last years, three international courts and tribunals have issued their Advisory Opinions (and a fourth one is pending) on States and other entities’ obligations in relation to existing and future climate change realities.
This Conference, co-organised by the Hellenic Branch of the International Law Association and the Hellenic Society of International Law and International Relations, under the auspices of the Law Faculty of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, wishes to bring together early-career and experienced scholars and practitioners to explore the potential impacts on and future prospects for international law (climate change and other areas alike) more than a year after the publication of these Advisory Opinions.
Join us this November in Thessaloniki for two days of engaging discussions in one of the most pressing issues of contemporary international law.
