The Law School of AUTH participates in the International Virtual Trial Competition “Monroe E. Price Media Law Moot Court Competition” organized by the University of Oxford since 2008. The competition aims to foster the role of the media and information technologies in societies around the world, as well as freedom of expression issues. The basis of the programme is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Participants produce their arguments before a virtual Chamber of Freedom of Expression of a fictional Universal Court of Human Rights.
Participation in the final stages of the virtual trial requires the team’s qualification for the regional preliminary round of Southeastern Europe, held in December at the University of Belgrade. The final stage of the Competition is held in March at Oxford University. Written and oral pleadings are combined to produce the total score.
Minimum requirement to participate in the selection process is the successful examination in the course “Public International Law I – General Part” and the excellent knowledge of English. Students interested in participating in the programme can contact the Chair of the Department of International Studies, Assistant Professor, M. Sarigiannidis (ms@law.auth.gr).
