The course deals with legal problems, principles and institutions of ancient greek city- states. Several ancient greek sources will be approached, especially the speeches of attic orators. Famous processes and their political contexts will be studied in order to reconstruct the legal system of ancient Athens and to compare it not only to legal institutions of other ancient city –states but to legal issues of modern societies as well. The students will be asked to make an oral presentation of a chosen topic and to test their knowledge through a written exam at the end of the semester.
